200 Years of Comparative Education

Roundtable

Two centuries ago, in Paris in October 1816, the Journal d’ éducation published the first article of a series entitled “Education Comparee”, having a long subtitle “Esquisse et vues préliminaires d’un ouvrage sur l’éducation comparée...”. It was the first time in history when the term Comparative Education was used. In December 1816 and January 1817 two other articles of the series appeared. The author of those articles was Marc-Antoine Jullien de Paris (1775-1848), commonly accepted as “Father of Comparative Education”.

 

The Bulgarian Comparative Education Society will proudly celebrate Jullien’s bicentenary by organizing a round table on this occasion. The Conference organizers invite authors to submit papers on:

  • new considerations of what Jullien actually did;
  • new studies on national histories of Comparative Education with a special focus on 19th century forerunners;
  • how Jullien’s work is presented in Comparative Education textbooks and articles;
  • today’s reflections, consequences and perspectives of Jullien’s work;
  • proposals for a restart of Comparative Education methodology;
  • ideas of future development of Comparative Education.
